Jason Hugh McMurtrey, 36, of Summer Shade, passed away on April 19, 2026, at U of L Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 15, 1989, at TJ Samson Community Hospital, he was the son of Tom and Freda McPherson McMurtrey.
Jason was a dedicated member of his community, co-owning Summer Shade Collision and serving as a volunteer firefighter with the Summer Shade Fire Department for nine years. His strong work ethic and willingness to help others defined him, and he was always ready to lend a hand.
Jason and his wife, Katie Hodges McMurtrey, married on September 28, 2013, and their love was unwavering. Katie stood by him throughout his illness, offering strength and care. He is also survived by his parents, brother, nieces, nephews, and extended family, along with his beloved dog, Kimber.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at McMurtrey Funeral Home, with burial in White Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Wednesday after 8:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Summer Shade Fire Department. Summer Shade, Kentucky.
