A councillor has paid a heartfelt tribute to his 24-year-old daughter following her tragic death in a road traffic collision in Kilkeel, County Down. Police confirmed that Aoife Tinnelly died after a two-vehicle crash in the village, leaving her family, friends, and community devastated by the sudden loss. Her father, Independent councillor Jarlath Tinnelly, shared an emotional statement expressing the depth of the family’s grief. “Needless to say, we are absolutely heartbroken at the untimely passing of our darling daughter and sister Aoife,” he said.
He described Aoife as a young woman who brought joy, warmth, and light into every space she entered—whether at home, in her workplace, or among her wide circle of friends. Aoife was known for her vibrant personality and strong social connections. Her father spoke proudly of the many friendships she built, especially across different communities, something he considered a great source of pride. Her ability to bring people together and form meaningful bonds was one of her most cherished qualities.
He also reflected on her life journey, from her early years at Kilbroney Integrated Primary School in Rostrevor, to her time at St Louis High School in Kilkeel, and later her studies in Newcastle upon Tyne. Throughout it all, Aoife embraced life with enthusiasm and positivity. Above all, he highlighted the special bond Aoife shared with her mother, Brenda—a relationship filled with love, laughter, and deep understanding. Her loss leaves an immeasurable void, and she will be remembered with enduring love.
