The passing has been announced of Sr Declan “Maureen” O’Callaghan of St Clare’s Convent, Newry, formerly of Keady and Adavoyle. She died peacefully, leaving deep sorrow among the Sisters of the Congregation of St Clare, her family, friends, and wider community.
Sr Declan was the beloved daughter of the late James and Mary Catherine O’Callaghan and the sister of the late Anna, Bernadette (Green), and Owen. She was also sister-in-law of the late Pat. She is deeply mourned by her devoted nephew James, her extended family, many cousins, and a wide circle of friends.
Her life in religious service was marked by devotion, humility, and care for others. Within her congregation, she was remembered for her faith, kindness, and steady presence among the Sisters of St Clare.
Funeral arrangements have been announced. Her remains will repose at St Clare’s Convent, Newry from Monday, with visitors welcome until 7pm on Monday and Tuesday from 2pm to 7pm.
On Wednesday, she will be removed to St Patrick’s Church, Keady for a 12 noon Requiem Mass, followed by burial in the Convent cemetery.
She will be deeply missed by her congregation, family, and all who knew her.
