The Nodaway County community is mourning the tragic and violent loss of Karen Babcock and Liberty Ann Moore, who were fatally shot inside a residence near Skidmore in a double homicide on April 18, 2026.
According to the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home near the intersection of Missouri Highway 46 and Route PP following reports of a serious incident. Upon arrival, officers—assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control—found both women suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite emergency response efforts, they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities later identified a person of interest, 20-year-old Keevin J. Maupin of Skidmore, who was taken into custody without incident. He has since been formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action and is being held without bond as the investigation continues.
